Choléra à Lubumbashi : 268 cas, 8 décès en 3 semaines
La ville de Lubumbashi, dans le Haut-Katanga, fait face à une nouvelle épidémie de choléra. Au moins 8 personnes en sont mortes, et 268 cas ont été recensés depuis plus de 3 semaines. C’est ce qu’a indiqué à la télévision Kyondo, le médecin responsable de la lutte contre la maladie.
Dans une interview accordée à Kyondo, le 28 mai, Franck Bitilasi (point focal de la riposte) a fait part d’une situation bien préoccupante qu’annoncée avant. La veille, plusieurs médias ont rapporté entre 103 et 113 cas de choléra. Mais la situation réelle va au-delà de ces chiffres qui ont sans douté filtré par des canaux officieux.
Kamalondo, l’épicentre du choléra
L’épidémie de choléra à Lubumbashi, en effet, fait souvent l’objet d’une communication officielle souvent moins fluide. Depuis août 2018, par exemple, la précédente épidémie de choléra n’avait été déclarée qu’en janvier 2019. Le Haut-Katanga enregistrait alors 1304 cas dont 64 décès sur l’ensemble de la province.
Cette fois, les autorités réagissent rapidement, et n’ont pas voulu geler la nouvelle comme avant. Au total, la ville compte 10 sites à ce jour identifiés, où se développe la maladie. Mais la zone de santé de Kamalondo, contiguë au centre-ville, compte à elle seule une soixantaine de cas. Ce qui en fait à ce jour, l’épicentre de l’épidémie.
Les éléments communs à tous les points qui font face à cette épidémie restent l’eau, qui n’est pas souvent sécurisée ou disponible pour tous. Et, l’assainissement du milieu qui, en général, reste lacunaire dans certaines quartiers.
